The Hillsboro Lighthouse first light up the sky in 1907 and has become an historic beauty ever since. It has survived storms and sea and has been a beacon guiding seafarers to their destinations for over one hundred years. Known as the big diamond because of its diamond shaped glass lantern room, the lighthouse offers twelve tours a year.
One of the oldest structures in Broward county, the only way to visit the Hillsboro Lighthouse if via boat tour. Tours depart from Sands Harbor Resort and Marina in Pompano and travel two miles along the Intracoastal Waterway. Along the way travelers take in the beautiful scenery and “Millionaire Mile” of mansions and yachts.
Once you arrive, climbing the 175 spiraling staircase steps leads you to the top of the lighthouse with a view of the clear waters and reefs lining the Atlantic coast.
